A versatile species used for shelter, firewood, timber and amenity. They have the added benefit of coppicing (the ability to regenerate from the stump once the existing tree has been felled.) In a firewood lot, aim to plant between 2000 and 2500 seedlings per hectare with 1.5m between trees and 2.5m between rows. Time of harvest will be determined by the rate of diameter increase (5 to 6 years on average). Some of the Acacia species also make excellent firewood and coppice well.
